K-pop idol Moon Taeil leaves group NCT after sex crime allegations

South Korean singer Moon Taeil has left K-pop group NCT following allegations of sexual abuse, according to SM Entertainment, NCT’s agency.

The company released a statement on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Wednesday saying the 30-year-old “has been charged in a criminal case related to a sexual offense.” No further details about the allegations were released.

“We have recognized the seriousness of the matter and have decided that Taeil can no longer continue with the team’s activities,” the label wrote, according to the Associated Press. “We have discussed this matter with Taeil and it has been decided that he will leave the group.” The label also said that Taeil is fully cooperating with the police investigation.

Taeil has been a member of the popular K-pop boy group NCT since 2016. He was also a member of the subgroup NCT 127. Taeil was still active in promotions until the album’s release in July.

Despite his departure from NCT, his contract with SM Entertainment has not been terminated at this time, reports from Korea JoongAng Daily.
