On Thursday, September 12, Carti’s fans nearly gave him high blood pressure when his accounts were updated with a post in which Blackhaine shouted, “‘New announcement from Carti tonight!'”

The announcement comes as fans patiently await Carti’s third studio album, tentatively titled I am music. The “Type Shit” rapper gave a sneak peek at the project — which will follow 2020’s album Very much red — during his performance at the Splash! Music Festival in Chemnitz, Germany. After treating the crowd to his Travis Scott collaboration “FE!N,” Carti assured fans that his third album was on the way.

“I promise you the album is coming,” he said during the set. “So it’s a good thing I’m coming here tonight and giving you a world premiere.”

Carti then performed his new songs “All Red” and “G-Wagon.”

The rapper has yet to announce an official release date for I Am Music, but according to Billboardis expected to be released later this year. According to the outlet, Carti and producer Cardo have been stuck in studio mode, developing a new sound inspired by producers like DJ Toomp, DJ Paul and Juicy J, as well as “the aesthetic of John Carpenter’s films.” They’ve called the sound “burned music.”

“We’re in the studio thinking, ‘This music is burned,’” Cardo explains.
