Team USA Takes Silver Medal in Women’s Wheelchair Basketball

Mankato’s Rose Hollerman led Team USA with 17 points, but the team lost the Paralympic gold medal match in Paris 63-49 to the Netherlands on Sunday. Three players on the U.S. team are tied with Minnesota.

This is the second Paralympic medal for Savage’s Abby Bauleke and Jordan’s Josie Aslakson, and the third medal for Hollermann, who added a silver to her gold and bronze medals.

Hollermann was the team’s leader throughout the tournament in Paris, averaging 15.5 points per game for the final against the Netherlands, along with an average of 21 assists per game and 50 rebounds per game.

Aslakson averaged 14 rebounds per game and three assists, while Bauleke averaged three rebounds per game and plus-minus 24 per game.

All three Minnesota athletes played in all matches of the tournament in Paris.

Team Netherlands won gold at the Paris Paralympic Games in a dominant performance, becoming the first Paralympic athletes to win back-to-back gold in the sport since the US did so in 2004 and 2008. The Dutch women won every event with ease, including a 53-point victory over Japan.
