Red Sox Legend Sounds Out About Controversial Yankees Steal Call

Pedro Martinez knows all about facing the New York Yankees in the postseason. The former Boston Red Sox pitcher is no stranger to watching playoff baseball in New York and sounded off after the Yankees took a 1-0 lead in the American League Division Series over the Kansas City Royals.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. appeared to be caught stealing with Antony Volpe at the plate during the seventh inning of Game 1 as his foot was tagged off the base. Instead, the repeat review mentioned Chisholm Jr. safely in second place. The Yankees stayed alive when former Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo drove in the go-ahead run for the decisive score in the game at Yankee Stadium.

Hours before Game 2 in the Bronx, Martinez offered his big-market theory that MLB favors star-studded teams like New York.

“I think they got robbed, but you know Steve, this is New York!” Martinez told Steve Perrault of Bleacher Report on Monday. ‘The referees, where are they? In New York! It’s the Yankees. They have to win in New York. That’s how I feel. … That’s such BS.”

The Yankees look to take a 2-0 series lead before heading to Kansas City with first pitch at Yankee Stadium on Monday night at 7:38 PM ET.
