Rashee Rice is likely out for the season due to an injury for the Chiefs

So they say there is a chance?

According to multiple reports, Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice will undergo knee surgery on Tuesday.

The silver lining is that the surgery is intended to repair Rice’s LCL, and not an ACL tear as previously feared.

Therefore, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, although Rice is expected to miss the remainder of the season, the recovery time is approximately three months and he should be ready to go in 2025.

“Chiefs WR Rashee Rice is unlikely to play again this season, but doctors won’t know for sure until they undergo surgery on Tuesday morning,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter said.

The language from both NFL insiders falls short of outright declaring that Rice’s season is over.

Rice’s injury occurred during friendly fire, when quarterback Patrick Mahomes collided with Rice while trying to make a tackle after an interception during last Sunday’s game against the Chargers.

“I didn’t notice it at the time, I was more worried about trying to get the ball,” Mahomes told reporters last week. “But it was clear I was just trying to play and that happens every time you try to make tackles.

“I mean, when I saw the replay, I felt like I hit Rashee. I think that’s about all – I mean, I wasn’t worried about myself. I was, hopefully, worried about his injury and hoping it wasn’t as bad as it looked because I was the one who hit him.”

Rice, the Chiefs’ leading receiver, had 24 catches for 288 yards and two touchdowns this season.

Off the field, Rice is dealing with legal troubles after causing a multi-car crash on a Texas highway while racing against a friend at high speeds this offseason.
