Rory McIlroy has been named in an exciting pairing for the first two rounds of the men’s Olympic golf tournament, along with Scottie Scheffler and Ludvig Aberg.

The event begins on Thursday at Le Golf National, site of the 2018 Ryder Cup. World No. 1 Scheffler is the favourite to win the gold medal after six wins on the PGA Tour this season, including The Masters. The American will face Ireland’s world No. 3 McIlroy and Swedish phenom Ludvig Aberg at 9.11am (BST) on Thursday.

Scheffler’s American counterpart Xander Schauffele is the reigning Olympic champion and world number two going into the tournament in incredible form, having won the PGA Championship and The Open in the past three months. He will play alongside Spaniard Jon Rahm and Norway’s Viktor Hovland at 10.55am.

Team GB are represented by Tommy Fleetwood and Matt Fitzpatrick. Fleetwood is out at 8.44am, along with American Wyndham Clark and Japanese hope Hidecki Matsuyama at 8.44am, while Fitzpatrick plays in the opening round with Frenchman Matthieu Pavon and American Collin Morikawa at 11.06am.

McIlroy’s Irish team-mate Shane Lowry has been drawn at 10.44am with South Korea’s Byeong Hun An and Canada’s Nick Taylor. Here are the full starting times for the first two rounds.
