‘Nothing is worth your life’

NFL legends Shannon Sharpe and Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson weighed in on the Ricky Pearsall shooting. During their “Nightcap” show, they said, “Nothing is worth your life.”

Pearsall was shot in the chest during an attempted robbery while trying to fight off the assailant, who tried to steal his Rolex.

“Okay, he’s good. There’s another lesson in this. Nothing is worth your life,” Johnson responded after Sharpe informed him that Pearsall was in stable condition.

“You can buy another Rolex. If someone wants to steal your car, you can buy another car.”

As the conversation continued, Sharpe objected to what Johnson had said, asking, “If someone comes up to you, doesn’t have a gun or a knife, and says, ‘Ocho, give it up.’ Are you going to take it off that quickly?”

He replied, “Yes! If someone comes to you and says, ‘Let me take it from you,’ you already know that they are holding it.”

The 49ers rookie was shot around 3:37 p.m. in San Francisco’s Union Square when a 17-year-old attempted to rob Pearsall by holding a gun to his luxury watch.

A struggle ensued over the weapon, during which it discharged several times. Pearsall was shot in the chest, among other places.

“First and by far most (sic), I want to thank God for protecting my baby boy,” Erin Pearsall, the player’s mother, wrote in a Facebook post, according to The Athletic. “He is incredibly lucky, God protected him. He was shot in the chest and it came out his back. Thank God it missed his vital organs.”

The wide receiver from Arizona State University and the University of Florida was selected 31st overall by the Niners in this year’s draft.

A shoulder injury kept Pearsall out of all of the 49ers’ practice games this summer.
