Dallas Cowboys and CeeDee Lamb reportedly have a contract difference of $1 million per year

Monday marked 13 days until the Dallas Cowboys’ season opener. Training camp is complete. The preseason is over. The 53-man final roster is underway with a deadline of Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET, but there’s still no sign of wide receiver CeeDee Lamb.

The last official team event Lamb participated in for the team was the playoff loss to the Green Bay Packers. Here we sit, on August 26, with his holdout continuing.

It remains frustrating that this situation continues to fester, but it’s clear that both sides are passionate about what they want out of a contract extension. Recent reports suggest they’re not far apart, and on Monday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter noted during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show that it’s “about” a million dollars a year.

“I can’t believe it’s August 26th and it’s still not resolved. And I don’t think the parties are that far apart. And I don’t think they’ve been that far apart and yet here we are. In the place we’re at right now and it’s still not finalized. And so most people believe that at some point this deal will get done, that he’ll come back, that he’s not going to miss the opening game against the Cleveland Browns… that’s still the thinking. But again. To me. What are we talking about here? If, as I’ve heard, they’re on average about $1 million a year apart… just figure out a way to get it done. Get both parties to the table. Sit them down. And make sure nobody leaves until there’s a resolution. Again. I’m sure I’m oversimplifying this, but it can’t be that hard to bridge a difference that’s already that close.”

The salary cap is real and not an easy thing to navigate. We can all admit that. But if the price difference is really anywhere near a million dollars a year, it seems foolish to keep dragging it out with the regular season starting so soon. We are long past the time for that to be done.

The market is not going to change. Lamb is not likely to bow to his persistence. The situation is what it is and the corner is painted, it is just time to walk through the freshly coated floor and out the door.

Do it.
