‘Baby Reindeer’ Wins 4th Anniversary Limited Series at Emmy Awards

LOS ANGELES — The dark and quirky Netflix film “Baby Reindeer” won Best Actor and Best Screenplay for series creator and star Richard Gadd, and Best Supporting Actress for Jessica Gunning, who plays his tormentor.

Accepting the award for Best Limited Series, Gadd urged television makers to take risks.

“The one constant in any success on television is good storytelling,” he said. “Good storytelling that is in tune with our times. So take risks, push boundaries. Explore the uncomfortable. Dare to fail to succeed.”

“Baby Reindeer” is based on a one-man play in which Gadd describes how he was sexually abused and the emotional problems he experiences as a result.

When he accepted the award, he said, “No matter how bad it gets, it always gets better.”

The Associated Press generally does not name people who say they were sexually assaulted unless they come forward publicly, as Gadd did.
