Carson Steele’s pet alligator Crocky-J became famous during Thursday night’s NFL season opener between the reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs and the Baltimore Ravens.

Steele, who received the alligator as a Christmas present in elementary school, made the Chiefs’ 53-man roster despite being an undrafted free agent this year. The Center Grove graduate and 2020 Indiana Mr. Football Award winner ran twice for 3 yards in a 27-20 Chiefs win.

Crocky-J was featured in a segment on NBC.

According to Steele, Crocky-J is “about four to five feet” and “probably 100 to 100 pounds.” Steele said the alligator lives at an aquarium in Indiana.

Steele, who has been billed as “the most interesting man in college football,” first attended Ball State and later transferred to UCLA. When he arrived in Southern California, then-coach Chip Kelly commented on Steele leaving the unique pet in Indiana.

“It’s a good thing he made the decision to leave it in Indiana,” Kelly said. “If it was here, I think we would all know about it.”
