Linkin Park is counting down to something. On Saturday (August 24), the rock band shared a mysterious 100-hour countdown timer on their social media accounts, with a link to the group’s official website.

At the time of this article, LinkinPark.com had a YouTube livestream with the same timer and an accompanying live chat full of fan speculation, much of it surrounding the announcement of a new vocalist to replace late lead singer Chester Bennington, who committed suicide in July 2017 at age 41.

“I hope they announce the new singer, LP deserves to continue (with) their legacy,” one user wrote in the chat. Another fan asked, “If LP has a new singer and it’s a woman, who do you want it to be?”

Linkin Park’s countdown clock ends on Wednesday, August 28.

Earlier this year, sources said Billboard that the band members were considering a possible reunion tour in 2025 and were considering hiring a singer to replace Bennington. In late April, booking agency WME was fielding offers for a potential Linkin Park tour, along with headlining festival dates with LPs Mike Shinoda, Brad Delson and Dave Farrell, the sources said. The band did not specify who would sing for Bennington, but a source told Billboard that LP hoped to find a female vocalist to become the lead singer of the reunited group.

Orgy’s Jay Gordon, who fueled the speculation at the time, said he had heard rumors of a Linkin Park reunion during a performance in Wired in the Empire on KCAL 96.7.

“Really, really cool guys and obviously a great band,” Gordon said. “They’ve been around for a long time and they’re still going strong,” he said. “It’s going to be tough without Chester, but we’ll see. I hear they’ve got a female vocalist now. That’s what I’ve heard.”

Gordon later released a statement saying his comments had been taken out of context. “As for the Linkin Park Singer thing. I don’t know anything about that,” he wrote.

As previously reported, Shinoda was asked about a possible reunion around the April release of Papercuts (Single Collection: 2000-2023).

“Rumors are always going around. People always ask what the band is going to do, and the best answer I can ever give is: If there’s anything to tell, we’ll tell you,” Shinoda said Revolver magazine. “If there’s an announcement to be made, it’s going to be on LinkinPark.com. If you hear it from someone else, you can trust that information as much as you want.”

Linkin Park is one of the most successful rock groups of the 2000s, having sold over 29.4 million albums in the United States, according to Luminate. The band has had 24 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, including three top 10 hits: “In the End” in 2003, “What I’ve Done” in 2007 and “New Divide” in 2009.
