Amazon Joins MPA Hollywood Trade Group

The Motion Picture Association, the Hollywood trade association that represents film and television studios, welcomes a prominent new member.

Amazon is joining the MPA, through its subsidiaries Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios.

Amazon, the producer of films such as Salt fire and TV series such as Aftermathjoins Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures, Universal Studios, The Walt Disney Studios and Warner Bros. Discovery as a member, as well as Netflix, which was the most recent member, joining in 2019.

The MPA advocates on behalf of its members and takes a strong stand on issues such as copyright and intellectual property protection, anti-piracy measures, production incentives and other issues at the intersection of public policy and entertainment.

“The MPA is the global voice for a growing and evolving industry, and welcoming Prime Video & Amazon MGM Studios to our ranks will broaden our collective policymaking and content protection efforts on behalf of our most innovative and creative companies,” Charles Rivkin, chairman and CEO of the MPA, said in a statement. “MPA studios energize local economies, boost job creation, enrich cultures and strengthen communities everywhere they work. With Prime Video & Amazon MGM Studios joining our roster of extraordinary members, the MPA will have an even greater voice for the world’s best storytellers.”

“Amazon’s mission is to entertain customers around the world with compelling movies and television. To do that, we must support storytellers while also helping to maintain a robust entertainment industry that works for both studios and our creative partners,” added Mike Hopkins, Head of Prime Video & Amazon MGM Studios. “We’re proud to join the MPA and its member studios in their collective efforts to protect creators, content and consumers worldwide.”

Amazon has worked with the MPA in the past and has been a board member of the MPA’s anti-piracy group, the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE), since 2017. MGM was previously a member of the MPA from 1928 to 2005.
