An American will participate in the semi-finals of this year’s US Open.

Taylor Fritz won a hard-fought quarterfinal 7-6(2), 3-6, 6-4, 7-6(3) over fourth-seeded Alexander Zverev on Tuesday afternoon at Arthur Ashe Stadium to reach his first-ever Grand Slam semifinal.

It is the second year in a row that an American has reached the penultimate round in Flushing, after Ben Shelton reached the semifinals in 2023.

No American player has won the US Open since 2003, when Andy Roddick took the title.
