Three player prop picks for ‘MNF’

Fortunately, football is back.

And in preparation for the first Monday Night Football game of the season, here are our three favorite player props for the Jets against the 49ers, featuring Deebo Samuel, Garrett Wilson and Christian McCaffrey.

Jets vs. 49ers player props

Deebo Samuel over 4.5 receptions (-114, Caesars)

Due to a long-running contract dispute that was resolved at the last minute, Brandon Aiyuk will see fewer snaps Monday as he works to get back into shape. Coach Kyle Shanahan said he would be “surprised” if Aiyuk plays his usual snap count.

Aiyuk’s smaller role means more work for other receivers, especially since the Jets can load the box and prioritize limiting McCaffrey’s output on Monday nights.

And here comes Samuel.

San Francisco’s offensive line isn’t expected to be a top unit, which means the Niners will make sure quarterback Brock Purdy gets the ball out of his hands quickly. And that’s what tends to happen in Shanahan’s offenses.

Therefore, expect a lot of screen passes to give Samuel opportunities to play in the open field against a Jets defense that will be incredibly strong in the secondary this season.

Garrett Wilson over 5.5 receptions (-145, FanDuel)

It’s quite possible that Wilson could have a huge breakthrough season in 2024.

Last season, the Jets wide receiver caught 95 passes and totaled 1,042 yards receiving despite having a combination of Zach Wilson, Tim Boyle and Trevor Siemian at quarterback.

Now Wilson can count on Aaron Rodgers throwing to him, which should lead to more production, especially as the offensive line enters the 2024 season healthy.

Even with an injured offensive line and terrible quarterback play last season, Wilson still managed to grab six or more receptions in seven of the Jets’ 17 regular-season games.

His production will only increase as Rodgers places perfectly placed passes between players this season.

Christian McCaffrey always scores a touchdown (-165, FanDuel)

The “McCaffrey Anytime Touchdown Scorer” prop was a bet to add to parlays last year, as McCaffrey consistently found himself in the end zone.

The line for this prop has never been higher than -210 in the running back’s final 10 games in 2023; in the NFC title game against the Lions, the line was even shorter than -325.

The Jets’ defense should be among the NFL’s best this season, barring an unexpected injury.

However, McCaffrey is used so often in Shanahan’s offense that it seems likely he can loose one or at least score one in the end zone if the Niners get into the red zone.

Last season, McCaffrey totaled 21 touchdowns and scored at least one in 13 of the 16 regular season games in which he appeared.

While there are concerns over McCaffrey’s calf injury, he says he is ready.
