Taylor Swift Endorses Kamala Harris for President

CNN

Taylor Swift said Tuesday she’s endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris in the presidential race, ending speculation about whether and when the superstar would make her political views known ahead of the November election.

“Like many of you, I watched the debate tonight. If you haven’t already, now is a good time to do your research on the issues at hand and the positions these candidates are taking on the topics that matter most to you. As a voter, I’m making sure to watch and read everything I can about their proposed policies and plans for this country,” Swift wrote on Instagram.

“It was recently brought to my attention that AI of ‘me’ that falsely endorsed Donald Trump’s presidential campaign was posted on his site. It really raised my fears about AI and the dangers of spreading misinformation. It led me to the conclusion that I need to be very transparent about my real plans for this election as a voter. The easiest way to combat misinformation is with the truth. I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 presidential election.”

Harris became the Democratic Party’s nominee in July after President Joe Biden withdrew from the 2024 presidential race. In August, Harris announced Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate.

Swift noted Harris’ choice of Walz in her recommendation.

“I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes that I believe need a warrior to defend. I think she’s a determined, talented leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we were led by calm and not chaos. I was so encouraged and impressed by her choice of running mate @timwalz, who has been advocating for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman’s right to control her own body for decades,” Swift wrote.

“I’ve done my research and I’ve made my choice. Your research is entirely yours to do and the choice is yours to make. I also want to say, especially to first-time voters, remember that you have to be registered to vote! I also find it much easier to vote early. I’ll link in my story where you can register and where you can find the dates and information for early voting.”

Swift concluded her message by calling herself a “childless cat lady,” a phrase previously used by Sen. JD Vance, Trump’s running mate, to criticize Democrats.

In 2020, Swift announced her support for Biden and Harris in their bid for the White House.

Swift remained silent about politics for most of her nearly two-decade career until the 2018 midterms, when she endorsed two Democratic candidates from Tennessee. Since then, she has openly expressed her support for Democratic policies and candidates, often encouraging her supporters to vote and advocating for women’s rights, reproductive health, and LGBTQ+ rights.

In her 2020 documentary “Miss Americana,” Swift expressed regret for not speaking out sooner on political issues. In an emotionally charged scene, she told her father Scott Swift that she felt the need to “be on the right side of history.”

In another scene, she criticized former President Donald Trump.

A group of Swift supporters, known as Swifties, mobilized during the 2024 election campaign, creating an online Swifties for Kamala community shortly after Biden withdrew from the race and his subsequent endorsement of Harris.

The group, which Swift is not affiliated with and has thousands of followers on X, raised more than $122,000 during its two-hour kickoff call in August. Speakers included Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and singer Carole King.

“We believe Harris-Walz will fight for our rights and the rights of our loved ones, and help make this country safer for everyone,” Carly Long, communications director for Swifties for Kamala, previously told CNN.
