Taylor Swift Endorses Kamala Harris. And Yes, It Could Sway Voters

A Harris endorsement was inevitable after Trump posted an AI-generated photo of Taylor Swift endorsing him weeks ago, a move Swift says prompted her to speak out about her voting plans.

Taylor Swift just endorsed Kamala Harris for president, calling herself a “Childless Cat Lady” in an Instagram post after Tuesday night’s debate.

“I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes that I believe need a warrior to defend them,” Swift posted on Instagram, alongside a photo of her and her cat. “I think she’s a steadfast, talented leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we’re led by calm and not chaos.”

Many people – presumably those outside of “stan culture” – will not understand why this is a big deal. Those people are not the ones receiving the approval – or lack thereof. It is of great importance to her fans. After all, they had already started organizing “Swifties for Kamala.”

Swift once said she had to “be on the right side of history,” and she knew her endorsement would get attention. For Harris, it’s the icing on the cake of a great debate night.

Donald Trump tried to speak on behalf of Taylor Swift

It had to happen after Donald Trump posted an AI-generated photo of Swift endorsing him a few weeks ago, which Swift says prompted her to speak out about her voting plans.

“The easiest way to combat misinformation is to tell the truth,” Swift wrote in her post.

That’s the kind of perspective that’s important for a celebrity to have — especially since Trump has already tried to speak on her behalf. It adds weight to what was already an expected endorsement. Plus, it’s sure to piss off the MAGA crowd.

Swift’s endorsement of Harris follows Trump’s disastrous debate

Harris was already having a great debate night. She managed to get Trump to reveal his true colors by constantly taunting him. He couldn’t help but say completely insane things like that Harris “wants to perform transgender surgeries on illegal aliens in jail” and that there are immigrants who try to eat your pets.

Trump’s lies about children: Trump knew Moms for Liberty was the perfect group for his hate speech, so he let it go.

Trump was also called out on a number of untruths he shared during the debate, thanks to live fact-checking by moderators Linsey Davis and David Muir.

Overall, Harris performed exceptionally well. It seems to be paying off for her already.

Swift joins list of celebrities supporting Harris

Other celebrities have also not been shy about showing their support for Harris. Rapper Megan Thee Stallion has been outspoken about her support for the vice president. She performed at a Harris rally in Atlanta in July and used her platform to encourage people to vote.

“To be in a life where a black woman, or any woman at all, could be president, I feel so blessed,” she told Billboard earlier this month. “This is what the future is all about.”

Did the algorithm kill the pop star? What Chappell Roan, Charli XCX and ‘Brat’ tell us.

Beyoncé is another celebrity who has shown her support for Harris. Although she has not publicly endorsed anyone, the singer has allowed the candidate to use her song “Freedom” in her campaign.

Swift isn’t doing anything unusual — supporting a candidate is pretty typical celebrity behavior. Her fans care about who she supports, even if the rest of us don’t yet see how it will move the needle.
