Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley has shot down rumors that he’s involved in alternative rock band Linkin Park’s upcoming announcement.

Linkin Park, formerly led by the late Chester Bennington, has already given a sneak peek of some major news expected on Wednesday, August 28. A countdown has been posted on their website.

Meanwhile, Danny Wimmer’s Welcome to Rockville festival shared the same message, suggesting a Linkin Park reunion could happen during the 2025 festival season.

Coupled with Whibley’s Instagram post telling fans to “tune in Wednesday morning” and the fact that Sum 41’s album is due out in March 2024, Heaven :x: Hell, their last one, Linkin Park’s teaser gave the impression that the two bands would cross paths.

Whibley has now shared a message via his social media accounts to clear the air.

“I feel the need to debunk some current rumors,” he wrote. “It has been brought to my attention that many people think I may be joining a reunion band. But I just want to say that despite popular belief, I am not joining Oasis… or Linkin Park. Or any other band for that matter.

“I have my own ‘tour and book’ announcement that I am now moving to the end of the week, prior to our US tour. I look forward to seeing what these two great bands do in the future.”

Linkin Park has been on hiatus since Bennington’s death in 2017, but rumors have swirled that a reunion is in the works with original members Mike Shinoda, Brad Delson and Dave Farrell.

Earlier reports suggested that a female vocalist would take on the role of lead vocalist, but Evanescence star Amy Lee quickly denied that she would be taking over the role.

“That’s an incredible compliment, I’ve never heard that before,” she said in an interview with Canada’s iHeart Radio.

“No, I haven’t been approached by (Linkin Park) or anything. But (I’m a) huge fan (and) I feel like our worlds, our fan bases, are largely the same people.”

In the biggest reunion news of the week (so far), Oasis’ Noel and Liam Gallagher confirmed that they’re reuniting the British rock band for a major stadium tour in 2025.

The long-awaited announcement caused Oasis’ official website to crash on Tuesday (August 27) as fans rushed to check dates for the band’s shows in London, Manchester, Dublin and Edinburgh next year.
