Still reeling from Helene’s aftermath, a new tropical threat is developing in the Gulf

As the South continues its recovery from the devastation of Hurricane Helene, another storm system is showing the development potential in the Gulf of Mexico.

Early October is still not far from last month’s peak of hurricane season.

Most tropical systems in the Atlantic Ocean will stay away from the US, including Tropical Storm Kirk, but one system in the Caribbean could move into the Gulf by the end of the week.

The Atlantic basin is busy with tropical systems on October 1.

At this point it is still too early to say to what extent it will develop and where it will strike. But some of our most trusted computer models are bringing this system to Florida early next week due to heavy rain.

At this time, the chance of development by the end of the week has 40%.

If the system is given a name, it could be called Leslie or Milton, depending on whether something forms in the Atlantic Ocean first.

There is a 40% chance of a tropical system developing by the end of the week.
