Shannon Sharpe’s absence from ESPN not linked to IG Live sex tape

Shannon Sharpe is avoiding trouble after his viral sex video on Instagram Live on Wednesday.

TMZ reported that the sports journalist would not be punished by ESPN for the X-rated incident.

Sharpe was not on the set of “First Take” on Thursday, as Thursday and Friday are his regular days off. He is expected to return to the air on Monday, according to the site.

The former NFL tight end accidentally shared an audio file of himself having sex with a woman to his approximately 3.2 million followers on the social media platform.

Sharpe initially claimed his account had been hacked, but backtracked a few hours later on an episode of “NightCap,” his YouTube show with Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson, admitting it was him and a woman in the audio.

“Of course I’m embarrassed. Someone who is extremely, extremely private and has one of your most intimate details – the audio – out there for the whole world to hear, I’m embarrassed for a number of reasons,” Sharpe said.

“There are a lot of people who rely on Shannon to always be professional, and I always try to be professional, even when I’m behind closed doors. … I’m very disappointed in myself, not for the act. I think there are millions and billions of people of consenting age who participate in activities, but to have the audio out, I’m disappointed in myself. I’ve let a lot of people down.”

Thousands of people watched Sharpe’s unfortunate accident and hundreds of thousands later listened to his performance when he took to the air.

Sharpe, a three-time Super Bowl champion and four-time All-Pro during a Hall of Fame NFL career with the Broncos and Ravens, joined the World Wide Leader in August 2023 after leaving FS1 following a feud with Skip Bayless.
