LJ Johnson Jr. scored on a 1-yard run shortly after the official review overturned a Brashard Smith fumble that was recovered by U of L inside its own 10.

Ja’Corey Brooks caught an 86-yard touchdown pass from Tyler Shough. SMU cornerback Jonathan McGill went down trying to contest the throw, allowing Brooks to run the remaining 50 yards untouched.

Collin Rogers made a 43-yard field goal as the Cards kept them out of the end zone for the first time this game after letting the Mustangs reach their 20.

Running back Don Chaney Jr., scored on a 1-yard touchdown plunge on fourth-and-goal as Louisville opened the second half with an eight-play, 78-yard drive.

BRock Travelstead made his second field goal of the game, this time from 38 yards out. The Cards advanced to SMU 23, but a sack sabotaged them from getting closer to the end zone

Kevin Jennings burst to the left side of the line and ran untouched for a 59-yard touchdown run on a third-and-2.

Brock Travelstead made a 46-yard field goal to make it four straight possessions and open the game with a score.

The Mustangs hit another big pass on the first play of the drive with a 31-yard completion to RJ Maryland. Backup quarterback Preston Stone replaced Jennings, who was injured on a 22-yard run, to throw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Key’Shawn Smith.

The Cards answered SMU with a touchdown drive on its first possession. The key play was a 50-yard strike from quarterback Tyler Shough to Ahmari Huggins-Bruce. It set up a 6-yard scoring pass from Shough to Ja’Corey Brooks.

SMU made it look easy by combining pace offense with long stretches of yardage on the first drive. Kevin Jennings’ 33-yard pass to Roderick Daniels Jr. was the big play on the drive that helped set up Daniels’ 5-yard touchdown run.

Quincy Riley is out for a second straight game. He suffered an undisclosed injury against Georgia Tech and hasn’t returned since the ACC opener.

Louisville will be without defensive lineman Dez Tell today against SMU. Tell, who was on the sideline in street clothes, left last week’s game against Notre Dame with a leg injury but said he felt better on Monday.

Louisville will be without safety Devin Neal and wide receiver Jimmy Calloway against SMU. Neal has left the team, a team spokesperson said.

Louisville 45, SMU 31. Losing to Notre Dame, largely due to self-inflicted mistakes, will be the motivation the Cardinals need to get back on the winning side. While both defenses have been great this season, I see this being a battle of high-powered offenses, with the Cardinals having plenty of ammunition to come out on top.
