Stormy weather in Manitoba prompts tornado warnings, but no touchdowns: meteorologist – Winnipeg

Stormy weather hit southern Manitoba on Monday, with a few tornado warnings issued. But according to an Environment Canada meteorologist, nothing came ashore, except for the rain.

Justin Shaer told 680 CJOBs The beginning that a heavy rain shower fell in the region, about 20 to 30 millimeters.

“It spread from pretty much the entire Morden and Killarney area all the way east to Whiteshell and the Ontario border,” Shaer said.

“A small low pressure area below us in the Dakotas caused this. We even had a couple storms that were warned of tornadoes, but we didn’t get any reports of anything.”

The type of storm that occurs in the region, he says, is more common in the summer months, but it also happens in the fall, especially when it is still so warm.

Inevitably, a fall cooldown is coming, but Shaer said the rest of September will generally be “pretty pleasant” in southern Manitoba.

“After this system we will still see a significant drop, with highs in the high teens and lows at night in the single digits,” he said.

“But at least the high single figures. We don’t see anything going over that zero limit anytime soon.”
