Report France will change defence for Italy in Nations League

According to reports from L’Equipe, France will shake up their defence against Italy in the Nations League, with Liverpool’s Ibrahim Konaté set to start.

The event starts at 7.45pm UK time (6.45pm GMT) at the Parc des Princes in Paris.

This is the opening match in the Nations League group, which also includes Belgium and Israel.

Didier Deschamps is planning a number of changes from the team that reached the semi-finals of EURO 2024. Some of these are necessary due to the withdrawal of Olivier Giroud from international duty and injuries to Wesley Fofana, Aurelien Tchaouameni and Ferland Mendy.

According to L’Equipe, the defence will be reshuffled again tonight, with Liverpool’s Konaté playing in the centre alongside Arsenal’s William Saliba.

Initially it was thought that Dayot Upamecano would be preferred.

If Konaté starts, it will be his 17thand an international match for France, the first since the friendly against Canada in June.

He was in the squad for EURO 2024, but did not play a single minute.

Three Milan players are expected to be in the starting line-up for France: Mike Maignan, Theo Hernandez and Youssouf Fofana.

Probable lineups France vs Italy

France (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Clauss, Konaté, Saliba, Theo Hernandez; Y Fofana, Kante; Kolo Muani, Olise, Barcola; Mbappe

Italy (3-5-2): Donnarumma; Di Lorenzo, Bastoni, Calafiori; Bellanova, Frattesi, Ricci, Tonali, Dimarco; Retegui, Raspadori
