Rep. Mark Green’s wife accuses him of affair

The wife of the chairman of the influential House Homeland Security Committee said he filed for divorce last month after having an affair with a younger woman, The Post has learned.

Camilla “Camie Green accused her husband, Rep. Mark Green (R-Tenn.), of “having an affair with a 32-year-old woman” in a group message sent to other lawmakers Wednesday and seen by The Post.

Green’s wife claimed that the other woman, whom she did not name, was employed by the political news outlet Axios, but according to a letter to The Post asking her to drop the allegations, Axios’ corporate lawyer called the claim “false and inherently defamatory.”

“Your message not only caused this reporter significant emotional distress, it also damaged her professional reputation,” Brian Westley, content counsel at Axios, wrote to Camie Green.

“We therefore urge you to immediately set the record straight by sending a short follow-up message to the group stating: ‘I made a mistake when I wrote that Mark had an affair with a woman who worked at Axios. That is not true and I apologize for the distress and harm I caused to anyone my message may have influenced.’”

Camilla Green later told Politico in a statement: “I want to set the record straight, because I misidentified someone in that post. My husband was never in a relationship with an Axios reporter, and I regret saying that.”

“It’s no secret that Mark is going through something personal and I want to respect his privacy, but to make sure there’s no collateral damage, I want to make sure people know that any rumors or allegations of a relationship with a reporter are completely false,” the mystery woman also claimed to the outlet.

In a separate statement, Mark Green, 59, confirmed: “This is a difficult time for me and my family, and we are currently in the process of divorce proceedings. Because this is a very personal matter, I ask for privacy. I will continue to serve this district with everything I have, as I have done for the past five and a half years.”

“I have offered reconciliation, but he has rejected it and has pushed for a divorce,” Camie Green said in the message, which a congressional aide said was also emailed to offices on Capitol Hill.

“Satan has rewritten our marriage in his mind. I am very open about this because 1) I cherish the prayers of anyone who is willing and 2) I want to make others aware of how easily ‘predators’ are available to our spouses,” she added.

“If my story can prevent this tragedy from happening to someone else, I will tell it.

Camie Green’s letter goes on to discuss how lawmakers in Washington can become “intoxicated with power and worship” while serving far from their families. She says her husband “pushed God out of his life, me out of his life, and developed friendships with other members of Congress who were having affairs and getting divorced, drinking, partying, all while hosting a weekly Bible study in the basement of our home.”

“I still pray for him and hope that God will do a work in his heart, but my hopes are diminishing. He no longer wears his wedding ring and his will has been buried,” lamented the congressman’s wife.

Green, an Army veteran who trained as a surgeon, was elected to Congress in 2018 after serving nearly six full years in the Tennessee Senate. He and Camie have been married since 1989 and have two adult children.

As chairman of the Homeland Security Committee, Green is the House Republicans’ chief attack dog against the Harris-Biden administration over the ongoing border crisis.

However, on Valentine’s Day this year, he announced that he would not run for another term, but he reversed his decision 15 days later.

Green will face Democrat Megan Barry, the former mayor of Nashville, on November 5.
