Cycling Time Trials (CTT) is calling on all riders who want to race at its 2024 Closed Circuit Time Trial Championships to register now. Riders can expect a “festival of cycling” for riders of all ages and abilities, combining a day of exciting elite competition with family-friendly fun in a traffic-free environment.

July 30, 2024/ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – Entry for the Cycling Time Trials (RTTC) Closed Circuit Championships closes at midnight on Tuesday 30th July, so riders wanting to race at the iconic Goodwood Motor Circuit should register now. The event, on Sunday 11th August, is perfect for cyclists of all levels; from elite riders looking to challenge for the top step of the podium, to juniors taking on their first ever bike race, and regular riders who are unsure about racing on the open road.

Goodwood Motor Circuit offers a thrilling experience for cyclists and the CTT team are excited to use it as the venue for the Closed Circuit Championships for the first time in the event’s history. Set in the picturesque West Sussex countryside, the circuit is steeped in history and tradition. Originally built in 1948, it has hosted countless thrilling motorsport events over the decades and has built a reputation as one of the most iconic race tracks in the world, with its open layout and fast, sweeping corners.

“We are delighted to be hosting the Closed Circuit Championships at the prestigious Goodwood Motor Circuit, offering cyclists a unique and exciting racing experience,” said David Collard-Berry, Race Director for the RTTC Closed Circuit Championships.

Everyone is close to the circuit, the paddock is in the middle and spectators can watch the action from the gallery above the pit lane. Drivers will be amazed at how smooth the tarmac is and the lack of traffic makes it a perfect environment for anyone new to the sport. In short, Goodwood offers stress-free time trials for the whole family.”

With competitions tailored to different age groups and skill levels, the event offers all participants the chance to show their talents and passion for the sport. Paracycling and youth categories are also possible.

In addition to the traditional racing categories, the event will feature an exciting ‘fastest lap’ competition. Cyclists will have the chance to test their speed and skill as they attempt to complete the fastest single circuit of the course. Prizes will be awarded to the riders with the fastest lap times, adding an extra element of excitement and competition to the event.

In addition to the Closed Circuit Championships, Cycling Time Trials hosts a variety of other national championships throughout the year. These include the Individual Time Trial Championships, Team Time Trial Championships, Hill Climb Championships and more. Each event offers cyclists the opportunity to compete in a variety of categories and race alongside the fastest cyclists in the country, whatever their personal goals. All champions will be recognised for their achievements at the coveted CTT Champions Luncheon, which will be held in the Midlands on Saturday 16th November 2024.

Cycling Time Trials is the national governing body for time trials in England, Scotland and Wales.

Events on flat main roads and following a more or less “out and home” pattern are in the majority, but with increasing traffic levels there is a tendency for more events of a so-called “sporting” nature to take place. These often take place on hilly roads and usually follow circuit-like courses, so that the route can be followed by turning left only. This means that the problems associated with the long spearhead junctions of dual carriageways can be avoided.

The idea of ​​individuals riding “against the clock” and ignoring any other rider they pass or who passes them still applies to most events, but there are also events designed for teams of two, three or four riders riding together, known as Team Time Trials – abbreviated as 2up/3up/4up TTTs.

All open events are advertised in the annual ‘CTT Handbook’ and on the website. To enter one of these events you must be a member of a club affiliated with Cycling Time Trials. There are at least as many club events (which are generally not advertised) and if you approach the club that is promoting one of these events you can get a ride. For riders who are not in a club affiliated with CTT there are ‘come and try’ club time trials that they can enter.
