PlayStation Network is slowly coming back online after significant outages

PlayStation Network is coming back online after an evening outage that left users unable to play some of their games for hours.

At the time this article was published, Sony’s PSN service status page was still showing warnings for Account Management, Gaming & Social, PlayStation Video, and the PlayStation Store, with a general warning that “some services are experiencing issues.”

This PSN issue affected all currently supported PlayStation consoles (PS Vita, PS3, PS4, PS5) and other services that require a PSN login.

The Japanese Ask PlayStation Twitter account stated that Sony was investigating and carrying out repairs. “We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused,” Sony said.

However, users are reporting that PSN is slowly coming back online, and IGN was able to log into PSN in the UK this morning.

The PSN outage once again raises issues with a lack of true offline play for many single-player focused games. Does it play?, which tests commercial releases to ensure they work internet-free, tweeted: “Good thing we have internet so we don’t have to deal with offline services. Oh wait, it doesn’t work that way.

“Has anyone tried to register a detachable disk drive? Does that still work?”

The outage came after Sony admitted that recent changes to the PS5 home screen, which saw unique video game art replaced with annoying ads, was a “technical error.”
