Paris Olympics Doubles Predictions for Day 4, Including Rafael Nadal

The second round of the men’s doubles at the Paris Olympics will feature top singles players Gael Monfils and the Rafael Nadal/Carlos Alcaraz duo. Team USA will feature Rajeev Ram, while the clay court doubles event will continue in Paris.

Carlos Alcaraz/Rafael Nadal vs. Tallon Greek Spoor/Wesley Koolhof

Damian Kust: Alcaraz needed some time to catch up with Nadal in their opening round, but towards the end of their match the youngster pulled off some really good reflex combinations at the net. This could help them, because Nadal was pretty fantastic in that match from the start, annoying Gonzalez/Molteni a lot with his left spins. It is not clear if they will win this match as well, but they are the favorites. Alcaraz/Nadal in 2

Jordan Reynolds: The manner in which Nadal lost to Novak Djokovic showed that he is still far from his singles best. However, he was excellent in his opening doubles match and even outshone Alcaraz throughout. Koolhof is a great doubles player, but the Spanish duo will likely prove too formidable. Gael Monfils/Edouard Roger-Vasselin vs. Kevin Krawietz/Tim Puetz

Damian: Krawietz/Puetz are now the top favorites to win the title after Bolelli/Vavassori were eliminated. They just crushed the ATP 500 in Hamburg, beating Roger-Vasselin (with Reboul) along the way. The last Frenchman withdrawing is even better for them, as Monfils is not a great doubles player. Should be quite comfortable. Krawietz/Puetz in 2

Jordan: This is probably going to be a close match. It could depend on how well Monfils plays, since the other three guys are all experienced doubles players. Monfils is not as comfortable on the doubles court, and that could make the difference. Krawietz/Puetz in a tiebreak

Rajeev Ram/Austin Krajicek vs Thiago Monteiro/Thiago Seyboth Wild

Damian: Monteiro/Seyboth Wild pulled off a bit of a surprise by beating the potentially dangerous Bublik/Nedovyesov, but it’s not like the Brazilians can’t make a run themselves. Maybe they can’t, as they’re up against Ram/Krajicek, who still lack a bit of chemistry but are simply incredible doubles players in their own right. Ram/Krajicek in 2

Jordan: The American duo have both won Grand Slam doubles titles. The Brazilians, on the other hand, have achieved very little in doubles during their careers. It’s hard to see how Ram and Kracijek can’t get through this. Ram and Kracijek in 2

Tomas Machac/Adam Pavlasek vs. Nicolas Jarry/Alejandro Tabilo

Damian: Machac/Pavlasek are one of the deadliest wildcard teams in the event and have been taking names with other partners all year. That’s what they did together against Salisbury/Skupski in the opening round. The Chilean duo won’t be easy pickings either, but Machac/Pavlasek look like they can make it to the medal zone. Jordan: I like how Jarry and Tabilo’s games complement each other. Jarry has a great serve, Tabilo has great passing shots and both are capable volleyers. That combination gives them a good chance to beat Machac and Pavlasek. Jarry/Tabilo in 2
