USA defeated GB 73-69 to win gold medal in men’s wheelchair basketball tournament

Athletics: There was a dramatic end to the women’s T63 100m final as Italy’s Ambra Sabatini led the race but fell in her final strides, taking compatriot Monica Contrafatto with her. It helped that GB’s Ndidikama Okoh finished third, behind winner Martina Caironi and silver medallist Karisman Evi Tiarani.

Wheelchair basketball: GB have a great win at the end of the half, closing the gap to seven points, with the US leading 38-31 at halftime.

Wheelchair basketball: Ade Adepitan calls it “the biggest game in Paralympic basketball history for Great Britain”. GB will take on the USA. It will be tough.

Athletics: Davies is red-flagged on lap four, making no improvement on his previous attempt.

Athletics: Davies looks much more like it: his throw of 15.10m in the third round puts him in the lead.

Hannah Cockroft has indicated that these could be her last Games, to Channel 4: “Nine gold medals, nine rings (on the stadium bell). That might be the last chance. Now the hard work begins (her wedding in three weeks and five days).

“I hope I go home, have a great wedding and a great life.”

In the studio, Tanni Grey-Thompson dismisses that idea and says Cockroft could still compete in two more Paralympics.

Athletics: In the F63 shot put, Aled Davies has achieved two throws of 14.32 metres, which currently places him in fourth place.

Athletics: While we wait for Cockroft’s response, the final of the women’s 400 metres T38 was quite exciting, with British athlete Ali Smith finishing sixth in a personal best of 1 minute 0.88 seconds.

Athletics: Cockroft’s time to win her ninth Paralympic gold is about eight seconds faster than Adenegan. We’ll hear from the winner soon.

Athletics: Cockroft is already racing, the battle is currently one-two with Great Britain and there is less than a lap to go.

It’s the last night of athletics in Paris, and GB still have a couple of chances for a gold medal with Aled Davies in the F63 shot put and Hannah Cockroft in the T34 800m.

Stephen Clegg reacts to winning gold: “Unbelievable. I would have liked to go a bit faster. After that (100m) backstroke, it was unbelievable. I broke a world record and I was coming here to get it, but once I had the medal around my neck, I didn’t care about the record anymore. Same goes for this one. The time wasn’t great, but I came to get the gold and I got the gold, so I can’t be too disappointed.”

Tennis: Alfie Hewett’s reaction after winning silver earlier in the day.

“I have mixed feelings right now,” Hewett said. “After the start and the problem I had with my groin, it didn’t look so good. To grow into the match and fight and find a way and then get to a match-point scenario and be inches away from winning a gold medal is something I can be proud of. And the spirit of how it was played and the atmosphere and all of that is so, so positive, a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

“But of course it will stay with me to be one point away and miss that opportunity, you don’t just move on from one day to the next. But it’s all about perspective, looking at the good things that have come today. Sometimes it’s bigger than the individual and the person and hopefully that day can just really move things forward with our sport even more and get more attention. I’m very proud of that.”

Clegg’s mother Moira is in C4: “It was really amazing, out of this world, I wanted to cry.”

Swimming: Interestingly, Dzmitry Salei, who is in Paris as a neutral athlete, finishes second, ahead of his brother Raman Salei from Azerbaijan.
