It looks like the American football season is really starting now.

Week 2 had plenty of surprises. Bluebloods like Ohio State and Georgia dominated again, but this isn’t about them. This is about the real winners of Week 2, the teams that flexed their muscles in their own unique way.

Like Nebraska, who played the role of America’s Team and exposed the Colorado Buffaloes on national television. The Cornhuskers are 2-0, and that may very well be true. Let’s take a look at the biggest winners from Week 2 in college football.

Nebraska Cornhuskers Dominate Colorado

The evil empire has fallen, as Nebraska defeated Colorado 28-10. At halftime the score was 28-0.

Nebraska’s defense was dominant, making Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders very uncomfortable in the pocket. This Colorado team led by head coach Deion Sanders got so much hype, but this good old Midwestern team quickly extinguished it all in Week 2.

Last week, Coach Prime’s Buffaloes held a postgame concert in the locker room after their close win over North Dakota State University. This week, they’re back to the drawing board as they find creative ways to protect their quarterback.

Not only was Nebraska’s defense strong, but quarterback Dylan Raiola truly looks like a carbon copy of Patrick Mahomes, and not just because of the hair and sunglasses. Railoa completed 76 percent of his passes for 185 yards and a touchdown, and led Nebraska’s offense efficiently.

Northern Illinois was the story of week 2

That was the message that popped up on every iPhone in America Saturday night as Northern Illinois pulled off a miraculous win over No. 5-ranked Notre Dame.

The Fighting Irish entered the game as favorites (-28.5) and were completely embarrassed by a school from the Mid-American Conference.

NIU won an ugly game 16-14. The Huskies managed to keep their new quarterback Riley Leonard and thus created the biggest upset in college football this year.

Things looked shaky in Tuscaloosa as the South Florida Bulls gave Alabama everything they had at halftime. But you’d never know how close it was at one point when you look at the final score, as the Crimson Tide won 42-16.

You know what they say. It’s not how you start, it’s how you finish.

Alabama had absolutely no trouble getting the job done against USF on Saturday night, and the duo of Kalen DeBoer and Jalen Milroe continue to shake things up.

Dillon Gabriel, Oregon survives Ashton Jeanty, Boise State

Boise State’s running back Ashton Jeanty was the best player on the field in this game, and the Oregon Ducks had no answer for him on the ground.

Carrying the ball 25 times for 192 yards and three touchdowns, Jeanty was the engine behind Boise State’s offense.

But it was Dillon Gabriel who came out on top in this game, as the Ducks won 37-34. Gabriel was efficient in passing the ball, completing 18 of 21 passes for 243 yards and two touchdowns, and rushing for another score.

The No. 7-seeded Ducks fit the bill, beating out Heisman hopeful Jeanty on a day when he dominated the game. Meanwhile, Gabriel’s own Heisman campaign continues to grow.
