Mets Morning News: NLCS here we come

Meet the Mets

The Mets had chance after chance after chance to score against Phillies starter Ranger Suárez, but they couldn’t break through against his curveball. It was a maddening attacking display, but fortunately José Quintana almost matched it. He gave up only one run in the fourth on a misplay by Mark Vientos.

With all the runners still on base, things weren’t looking too good for the Mets until Jeff Hoffman got erratic in the sixth. The Mets loaded the bases for Francisco Lindor and he sent Citi Field into a frenzy when he hit a grand slam off Carlos Estévez, who had just entered the game. David Peterson held the fort until the ninth when Edwin Díaz entered. He walked the first two batters he faced, and with two outs, Kyle Schwarber walked to the plate to tie the game. Díaz struck him out with a 101 mph fastball to clinch the series and send the Mets to the NLCS.
