Is there mail on Labor Day? Post Office, UPS, FedEx hours

Labor Day is a national holiday, but not everyone knows for sure whether the mail will be delivered.

The opening hours of many postal services may vary on this day, while the opening hours of many restaurants and shops are normal depending on where you live.

Labor Day is a federal holiday celebrated on the first Monday of September. It recognizes the American labor movement and its successes in expanding and protecting the rights of workers.

Many people also celebrate this day as a farewell to summer. However, keep in mind that many businesses and organizations close their doors during this holiday.

If you are expecting to receive mail next Monday, please be aware that many postal services will be closed.

Post office

As a government agency, the United States Post Office will close its offices on Labor Day and will not deliver regular mail or packages all day.

However, some services, such as ordering stamps or printing shipping labels, are still available online.

In total, the U.S. Postal Service observes 11 official holidays, including Labor Day. Regular service resumes on Tuesday.

In general, all federal, state, and local government offices are closed on Monday for the federal holiday. Government employees are given a full day off and return to work on Tuesday.

FedEx

Some people may also be unsure about FedEx’s operational status on Labor Day.

Like the U.S. Post Office, the company will not be operating on Labor Day, and no mail will be delivered except for “Custom Critical” deliveries. That means FedEx Express, FedEx Ground, and FedEx Home Delivery will all be closed.

FedEx offices may operate on modified schedules. It is best to call first to verify.

UPS

United Postal Service stores are also closed on the federal holiday.

Domestic mail is also not delivered on Mondays, but UPS Express Critical is available for mail under certain circumstances.

Other companies

In addition to mail carriers, banks will also be closing their doors for the federal holiday. This includes top banks such as JPMorgan Chase, PNC, Truist and Capital One. However, ATMs should still be available for your cash needs.

Many chain stores have different opening hours depending on the brand and location, so be sure to call the store before you go.

Walmart will be open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Target stores will be open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
