Husker Harvest Days introduces free admission, welcomes local food favorite

Husker Harvest Days draws tens of thousands of people and as soon as they step through the gates, they notice big changes.

“We want to keep it fresh and new and we definitely have new things this year,” said Matt Jungmann.

The world’s largest working irrigated agricultural exhibition won’t cost you anything as long as you register online for free entry.

“You can do that at huskerharvestdays.com. We have QR codes as you walk up, or we have registration stations at the entrances,” Jungmann said.

Some visitors complained about the $15 entrance fee at the gate.

“We wanted to try something drastically different,” Jungmann said. The show collects data as part of the online registration, and anyone who doesn’t want to attend can pay $25 for a ticket.

As people walk around the grounds, they come across a familiar food stall, still busy cleaning up after the state fair.

Jeff Leo of Cactus Jacks said, “We just came off a record Nebraska State Fair, it should be a great year, a great show.”

“We just brought our lineup from there to here. We haven’t had a rest, but we’re excited to do it again,” Sarah Leo said.

Cactus Jacks may be a local favorite, but it has never been to Husker Harvest Days.

“For years we thought it would be a good opportunity, but we had to partner with a school, but a spot opened up to fill that and we partnered with Centura,” said Jeff.

All food stalls at the fair support local schools and the Centura Boosters provide volunteers and raise funds.

The show manager says the new admission policy means people can come for one day or all three days and it won’t cost them anything to see the latest developments in agriculture.

“The weather should be beautiful,” Jungmann said.
