If you value consistency and efficiency in design, Global Colors are the right choice.

They are a feature in Affinity Designer that takes defined color swatches and applies them to multiple elements in a design at once. When you change the color swatch to a global color, everything will immediately update with that color swatch.

Do I need to create a document palette?

Yes! To access global colors, you need to add a document palette.

How can I distinguish a regular color sample from a general color?

As mentioned above, global colors appear as a square with a white triangle in the lower left corner. This helps you see the difference between global colors and regular color palettes in Affinity Designer.

Can I create a color palette in Affinity Designer from an image or document?

You can! If you like the color palette of an image or document in Affinity Designer, you don’t have to go through the tedious task of adding each shade individually. Steel panel has a menu button on the right. Click it to see options that let you create a color palette directly in Affinity Designer from an image or document.

How do I know if I have applied the global color?

If you are unsure whether you have applied a global color to a design element, simply click on it. If there is an outline around the global color, it has been applied correctly.
