Indiana Fever star Aliyah Boston’s quick action in Wednesday’s win over the Connecticut Sun likely prevented teammate Caitlin Clark from receiving another technical foul this season.

In the third quarter of the Fever’s 84-80 win, Clark went to the ground after running into a hard screen from Sun forward Alyssa Thomas. Immediately after he went to the ground, Clark appeared visibly upset and began calling the officials for a foul and possibly more.

Thomas was called for an offensive foul, but Clark may have wanted the play reviewed for a possible flagrant foul. When Clark stood up and began to angrily walk toward the officials, Boston grabbed Clark by the waist and pulled her back while trying to calm her down.

The Fever rookie was able to cool down and play resumed shortly after.

If Boston hadn’t been so alert and made a smart move, Clark could have received her sixth technical foul of the WNBA season. Players are automatically given a one-game suspension after collecting seven technical fouls in a season.

Clark finished the game with 19 points, five rebounds, five assists and—thanks to Boston—no technical fouls. The 22-year-old guard also wrote her name back into history by setting the WNBA’s single-season rookie record for most three-pointers made (86).
