Houston Texans at Minnesota Vikings: Second Quarter Recap & Third Quarter Discussion

They enter the locker rooms for halftime (and the Ring of Honor ceremony for Bobby Bryant) at U.S. Bank Stadium, and the Minnesota Vikings still lead the Houston Texans, 14-0.

The Texans punted the ball away on the first play of the quarter, and the Vikings proceeded to put together their worst drive of the afternoon with multiple penalties that resulted in a three-and-out. Houston pushed into Minnesota territory on the ensuing drive, but turned a 3rd-and-4 into a 3rd-and-19 by committing three consecutive false start penalties thanks to the U.S. Bank Stadium crowd and punted the ball back to Minnesota.

Unfortunately, the Vikings’ drive stalled around midfield and Minnesota punted the ball back. Houston got the ball nearly at midfield and faced a 4th-and-3 from their own 47-yard line after the two-minute warning break had expired. Instead of going for it, DeMeco Ryans opted to punt the ball back to the Vikings.

The call was the right one, as the Vikings’ drive stalled after a couple of sacks by the Texans and Minnesota punted the ball back. The Texans didn’t move the ball after Ryan Wright’s punt and the teams went into the locker room with the Vikings up by two scores.

There hasn’t been much action on offense since the Vikings’ first two drives, but that’s a positive for us as the Purple head into halftime with a two-score lead and get the ball in their hands to start the second half.

The Vikings lead the Texans 14-0 at halftime in Minneapolis. Come in and join us for the third quarter of the game!
