Corrections & Clarifications: An earlier version of this article included an incorrect date, time and location for the grand opening of the Glendale West Streets Studio location.

Buckeye will hold its first-ever Buckeye Night Market on October 4 from 6 to 9 p.m.

Melissa Calles, photographer and co-owner of West Streets Studio, came up with the idea of the night market to provide a sort of First Friday for West Valley residents. At the same time, it would revitalize the downtown area and local businesses.

While the market would previously take place in the parking lot of the Adelante Healthcare Clinic near West Streets Studio, Calles had to abruptly vacate the studio due to a change in ownership of the building. It made more sense to move the market to the more centralized Sixth Street Plaza, where many events take place in the city of Buckeye.

West Streets Studio is now located in downtown Glendale. But Calles, a Buckeye resident, remains passionate about helping the downtown area and is open to eventually opening a new studio downtown.

Buckeye Night Market takes place on the first Friday of every month from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM through April at the Sixth Street Plaza in downtown Buckeye. The event is pet friendly.

Although alcohol will not be sold this month, Calles said that is a goal for the coming months. But there will be plenty of food from local vendors, as well as shopping, face painting, photos, a psychic and a performance by Tradiciones Dance Company.

There will be approximately 25 vendors at the market, including:

  • Yogi bites
  • Tassels Poms & Love LLC
  • Vero’s treasures
  • Studio unfiltered
  • Desert halos
  • Wild Ryde Soaps
  • The Maker LLC
  • The Olive Tree People
  • Crest coffee roasters
  • Frios Gourmet Pops
  • ToBeYou Boutique
  • Just stitched
  • Aroma de la Vida
  • Kokopelli Candy Co
  • Daleyza creations
  • Pampered chef
  • Tacos Barbon
  • Soul salvation
  • Green Irish moon
  • Mercadito
  • Barranqueno
  • Happy Sage and Artesanía
  • Lola’s locker
  • Carranza Honey Farms
  • Mando’s Gear Shop
  • Misskiki face painting
  • Psychic from Buckeye

There will also be information booths from the Arizona Army National Guard, Complete Pet Animal Hospital, Girasol, Therapy with Purpose and Zona Handyman Services. Konfetti Party AZ provides decor for photos.

The event is sponsored by Chevy’s Appliances, Arizona Water Company, West Streets Studio and Calles’ podcast “Who Gave this Girl a Mic?” Chevy’s Appliances also donated a washer and dryer, which will be raffled off at the market.

Calles’ busy weekend doesn’t end there: She and West Streets Studio co-owner Morgan West will host a grand opening for the studio’s Glendale location on Sunday. It is open to the public and offers food, photos and pop-up vendors.

The studio is located at 7157 N. 59th Ave. in Glendale. The festive opening is on Sunday from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
