Georgia school shooting: Teen suspect’s mother’s criminal record part of emerging picture of troubled family life

The 14-year-old Georgia high school student had a tumultuous home life, according to new information about his mother’s criminal record.

According to police and court documents seen by Fox News Digital, the teen’s mother, 43-year-old Marcee Anne Gray, had a lengthy criminal record, including drug abuse and property destruction.

The teenage suspect accused of fatally shooting two teachers and two students at Apalachee High School came from a divorced home. The 14-year-old lived with his father, Colin Gray, while his two younger siblings lived with their mother, Marcee Gray.

In November 2023, Marcee Gray was arrested for scrawling two words on the side of her husband’s truck and for possessing drugs.

The arrest warrant states that Gray had a glass jar of methamphetamine, a “baggie” of fentanyl, another “baggie” of multiple muscle relaxants and a glass pipe “used for ingesting narcotics.”

The warrant states that she concealed the identity of her Nissan Rogue vehicle by putting a tag of a Nissan Kick on it.

In December 2023, Marcee Gray was indicted and found guilty of the following charges: using a license plate to conceal her identity, second-degree criminal damage to property, and trespassing/family violence.

Marcee Gray was prosecuted under Georgia’s First Offender Act, which allows eligible defendants to plead guilty without being sentenced. Under the state’s First Offender Act, Gray spent the first 46 days in jail, rather than the full five years of her sentence.

She was on probation for the remainder of her sentence.

Documents show that during her probation, Gray was banned from having contact with her husband, Colin Gray, except through a third party and for matters concerning their mutual children.

The 43-year-old man was also required to participate in a domestic violence program and was not allowed to use drugs or alcohol.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the mother of the suspected teenage shooter had a lengthy criminal record.

Gray was charged with a traffic violation in Forsyth County and a speeding ticket in Barrow County in 2014. She was also charged in 2008 for a 2007 violation that included driving under the influence of alcohol, the outlet reported.

Court documents obtained by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution show she took a plea deal for the traffic violations and was ordered to pay a $600 fine and perform 40 hours of community service.

The teenage suspect’s father, Colin, was arrested Wednesday and charged with two counts of second degree murderfour counts of involuntary manslaughter and eight counts of cruelty to children, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI).

Investigators have released few details about the father’s alleged role in the shooting, but previously said the teen’s parents were cooperating with law enforcement authorities.

The father and son will return for a preliminary hearing in December. The mother has not been charged in connection with the high school shooting.

It was unclear Friday who was representing the Grays, but Fox News Digital reached out to Marcee Gray for comment.
