Francisco Alvarez leaves the game in a potential Mets injury nightmare

MILWAUKEE – On a night when it felt like things couldn’t get much worse for the Mets, they got even worse.

Francisco Alvarez appeared to be in pain and left the field in the top of the seventh inning as the Mets trailed 7-2 against the Brewers at American Family Field on Friday.

In the top of the eighth inning, the Mets announced that he was suffering from back spasms.

The Mets catcher had reached first base on a walk, advanced to second base on a wild pitch and rushed to third base when Tyrone Taylor grounded out.

Alvarez slid into the base feet first and then grabbed his lower back.

He shouted, gestured toward the dugout and lay still, grimacing.

With assistance, he got up about a minute later and needed help both to get off the field and down the dugout steps.
