The 22-year-old catcher reached base on a walk in the top of the seventh inning and later advanced to second base on a wild pitch. He successfully advanced to third base at a Tyrone Taylor ground ball to the left side of the infield, but he appeared to turn his back and remained on the field for an extended period of time after completing his slide.

Alvarez needed help leaving the playing field and walking down the stairs to the dugout. Luis Torrens took his place both on the bases and behind the plate.

The Mets will likely provide an update on his status shortly. New York currently trails 7-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning.
