First warning forecast: stormy Monday, calmer midweek

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Stay alert with your First Alert Weather Team and your WECT Weather App through Monday evening. The National Hurricane Center is officially predicting that a tropical storm named Helene will hit the upper South Carolina coast by late today, bringing a host of disruptive weather elements to the Cape Fear Region. Expect heavy rain, isolated flooding, erratic severe storms with waterspouts and tornadoes, frequent 30+ and isolated 40+ mph wind gusts, offshore gales, rough surf, rip currents, minor coastal flooding, and beach erosion. Amid the chaos, temperatures are likely to remain in the low 70s.

As Helene continues to move, expect conditions to improve and warm through midweek.
