FBI investigating attempted assassination of Trump at Florida golf course

Former President Donald Trump said he was “safe and sound” in a campaign email sent after a protective incident with Trump at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, on Sunday.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation said Sunday it is investigating “what appears to be the attempted assassination of former President Trump.”

“The Secret Service, in coordination with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, is investigating a protective incident involving former President Donald Trump that occurred shortly before 2:00 p.m.,” Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said in a statement.

President Joe Biden and Attorney General Merrick Garland are closely monitoring the situation, and Vice President Kamala Harris said she was glad her political opponent was safe, adding that “violence has no place in America.”

The Martin County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post that officers had arrested a person “suspected of involvement” in the shooting.

The incident occurred on the same day that the Republican candidate posted “I hate Taylor Swift” on his Truth Social platform and his running mate Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) admitted he had “no regrets” for spreading fake stories about Haitian migrants, leading to multiple threats in the city of Springfield, Ohio.

Where is Trump International Golf Club located?

Trump International Golf Club is located in West Palm Beach, Florida, approximately 4.5 miles west of Mar-a-Lago.

Trump Campaign Schedule This Week

Trump will launch a new cryptocurrency venture from Mar-a-Lago on Monday and hold three campaign events this week:

  • Tuesday: City Hall in Flint, Michigan 7:00 p.m. ET
  • Wednesday: Rally in Uniondale, New York 7:00 PM ET
  • Saturday: Rally in Wilmington, North Carolina 2:00 PM ET

Vance is expected to deliver speeches in Sparta, Michigan, Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and Raleigh, North Carolina

Incident takes place two months after attempted murder

The incident came two months after the former president was wounded in an assassination attempt in Pennsylvania on July 13, which led to an investigation and the firing of then-Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle, who has led the agency since 2022.

In the weeks that followed, Trump has beefed up security at his events, often speaking behind bulletproof glass at outdoor gatherings.
