Orange County firefighters rushed to Trabuco Canyon to extinguish flames that were ravaging vegetation on the hillside.

The Orange County Fire Department called it the Airport Fire because the fire started near a remote-controlled aircraft airfield on Trabuco Creek Road.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Department has issued a voluntary evacuation warning for people living near:

  • Roses Canyon Road
  • Trabuco Canyon Road
  • Trabuco Creek Canyon Road
  • Trabuco Oak Avenue
  • Joplin Loop
  • Cook’s Corner

The department has issued an evacuation order for the homes on Meander Lane, including:

  • Robinson Ranch Homeowners Association
  • Trabuco Hooglanden HOA
  • Trabuco Highland apartment complex

The fire department asked people to avoid the area so that the fire department could respond effectively.

Authorities have converted the Lake Forest Sports Complex at 28000 Vista Terrace, Lake Forest, CA 92630 into a temporary evacuation point. A large animal shelter is located at 88 Fair Drive in the city of Costa Mesa.

According to the OCFA, the size of the fire at the airport was enormous, growing from 7 hectares to nearly 800 hectares.

The department deployed firefighters, helicopters and planes to extinguish the fire before it reached the homes.
