Doug Pederson: Profit is a burden that falls off everyone’s shoulders

Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson shake off questions about his job security after the team fell to 0-4 last week, but there was no doubt that the poor start to this season and the rough end to the 2023 campaign put some tension in his seat.

It will be a little cooler on Monday. The Jaguars held off the Colts for a 37-34 victory on Sunday afternoon and they got a big performance from quarterback Trevor Lawrence en route to the win. Lawrence hit two passes of more than 60 yards and finished 28 of 34 for 371 yards on a day that offered a reminder of why he was the first overall pick in 2021.

After the game, Pederson said the outing lightened the load for everyone.

“I think there’s a weight off everyone’s shouldersright?” Pederson said, via Gene Frenette of the Florida Times-Union. “Not alone (Lawrence). It’s also a weight off my shoulders. Now you can’t follow me for at least a week.’

Some pressure may have been taken off, but it doesn’t take much for the pressure to come back on. The Jags will be in London next Sunday to take on the Bears and a loss in that game will put the team right back where they went in the Colts game. They remain in London to play the Patriots in week seven and an 0-2 win won’t be a good thing for anyone once the team gets back to Jacksonville.
