Cristiano Ronaldo becomes the first man to score 900 goals

Cristiano Ronaldo has become the first male player in history to score 900 goals in official matches, with his latest milestone reached during the UEFA Nations League match between Portugal and Croatia in Lisbon on Thursday.

Ronaldo scored the historic goal with a volley from six yards after a cross from Nuno Mendes to put Portugal 2-0 up in the 34th minute.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner is 58 goals ahead of his nearest rival, Lionel Messi, on 842. Brazilian legend Pele is third on the list with 765.

Ronaldo was also the first to break the 800-goal barrier, which he did in late 2021 during his second spell at Manchester United.

The Portugal captain’s 131 international goals in 209 appearances are also the most of all time. Messi is again second behind Ronaldo on that list, with his 109 goals equaling former Iranian striker Ali Daei.

Besides Al Nassr and Man United, Ronaldo shared his 769 club goals between Sporting CP, Real Madrid and Juventus.
