Crews respond to large fire at barrel company in Omaha

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Omaha Fire Department responded to a fire near Carter Lake Tuesday morning.

OFD was called to a brush fire at Jones Barrel Company around 9 a.m. Tuesday morning.

As a precaution, citizens were asked to evacuate and a second alarm was sounded to assist with the evacuation.

However, according to the OFD, the fire was quickly brought under control and the threat had diminished.

OFD reports that the thick, black smoke coming from the fire was caused by burning plastic. They report that there is no danger to the community.

The store owners say the barrels that caught fire were intended for storing food.

To get a better view of the fire, an Omaha Police Department drone was deployed.

Officials are working to determine the cause of the fire. No injuries have been reported.
