Chiefs News 9/23: Carson Steele’s family watches his first NFL start

The last one

Carson Steele’s family saw his first Chiefs start against the Falcons as a special moment | SI.com

What a special moment.

Carson’s sister reportedly sent out a save-the-date invitation more than a year ago, and Carson was supposed to be a witness to her wedding. But the Chiefs running back was clearly needed elsewhere as Kansas City looks to secure its third win of the season on Sunday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium en route to a coveted three-peat.

Taylor Swift fans ecstatic over message from Kansas City Chiefs’ Travis Kelce | Mirror

Swift, who accepted the award for best video of the year at the VMAs, praised Kelce’s unwavering support of her musical journey. “When I finished a take and I said ‘cut,’ and we were done with that take, I would always hear someone cheering and saying ‘whoo’ on the other side of the studio,” she mused.

“And that one person was my boyfriend Travis. Everything this man touches turns into happiness and joy and magic.”

Fans swarmed the Chiefs comment section Instagram post to applaud the brains behind Kelce’s witty pre-game ensemble caption. “Whoever the admin is I LOVE YOU,” one user cheered, while another urged, “Please give this intern a raise.”

Social media users are full of praise for the internet admins. One fan says: “That caption is perfect,” while another adds: “All Tayblessings to the admin, you really enjoyed the caption.”

Chiefs fans express frustration over team’s struggles in close-quarter situations | KC Star

The Chiefs were forced to kick a field goal despite moving the ball to the Falcons’ 3-yard line at one point. It was the only time the Chiefs had a goal-to-go situation in the game.

Another drive that started on the Falcons’ 34-yard line after an interception resulted in a field goal as the Chiefs gained just 8 yards. Throughout the game, Chiefs fans took to social media to share their frustration with the team’s play in short-yardage situations and in the red zone (the Chiefs scored two touchdowns in four trips inside the 20).

NFL fans question referees after controversial no-call of Cook-Pitts in Chiefs vs. Falcons | Bleacher Report

This is the second straight week the Chiefs have taken advantage of the officials. A defensive pass interference penalty put them in position for a game-winning field goal in their Week 2 win over the Cincinnati Bengals.

Fans are growing tired of the reigning Super Bowl champions increasingly being helped by referees, and have taken to social media to voice their displeasure.

Travis Kelce Shows Off Ultra-Rare Air Jordans to Chiefs Game | SI.com

Kelce was dressed like a true rock star. While the designer suit was impressive, it was his vintage Air Jordan sneakers that caught the attention of sports fans.

Kelce wore the Air Jordan 3 in the “Legends of Summer” colorway. The sneakers originally released in an extremely limited edition in September 2013 for $210. The old-school kicks are so exclusive that they’re hard to find on popular sneaker resale sites.

Antonio Pierce: Raiders made ‘business decisions’ in shocking home loss to Panthers | NFL.com

Pierce was unimpressed with Las Vegas’ performance overall, but was most critical of his club’s leadership.

“I think as the game went on — I don’t think it was the team,” Pierce said. “I think there were definitely a number of individuals who were making business decisions, and we’ll be making business decisions going forward.”

When asked what positives he could take from the defeat, Pierce quickly replied: “Nothing.”

Leaders in the Raiders locker room weren’t sure who Pierce was talking about, but agreed with their head coach that Sunday’s performance wasn’t good enough.

Roberts’ sack on Herbert appeared to twist a high ankle sprain Herbert suffered last week against the Carolina Panthers. Herbert was initially considered questionable for Sunday but was active prior to the game.

Herbert was taken to the medical tent for further evaluation. During the third quarter break, the Chargers announced that Herbert was officially questionable to return. After the game, Herbert wore a running boot, according to Daniel Popper of The Athletic.

Before the injury, Herbert had completed 12 of 18 passes for 125 yards and a touchdown, putting the Chargers in a 10-10 tie with the Steelers.

NFL Rankings: Where the 49ers stand after collapse against the Rams | Yahoo Sports

If there’s one thing we’ve learned from the first three weeks of the 2024 NFL season, it’s that the “any given Sunday” mantra may no longer be true.

Sam Darnold and the juggernaut (?) Minnesota Vikings kept rolling. Derek Carr and the New Orleans Saints offense got a taste of humility, while a pair of Super Bowl hopefuls were at the center of two epic comeback attempts.

Here’s the standings for the 49ers and the rest of the league heading into Monday night’s doubleheader:

8 NFL Draft Prospects We Liked in Week 3

DE Kyle Kennard, South Carolina

So far this season, one of my favorite units to watch has been South Carolina’s defensive front, which is filled with elite athletes who play with their hair on fire when they pressure the passer. South Carolina was able to consistently apply pressure and collapse the pocket against LSU — who has two elite tackle prospects and one of the best offensive lines in the country.

Their true freshman, Dylan Stewart, looks like an absolute superstar, but Kyle Kennard also impressed me. Kennard played four years at Georgia Tech before transferring to South Carolinaand that move seems to have paid off. He plays with a ton of length and power, and consistently crushes the pocket with great effort. He doesn’t have much bend, but the power and length allow him to play through a tackle’s chest and create consistent chaos.
