Chiefs Andy Reid on Samaje Perine’s performance: ‘Welcome to the crew’

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid addressed the media after the win and focused on the performance of veteran third-down running back Samaje Perine.

According to Reid, Perine received one incredibly lateral from Travis Kelce to keep alive a drive he hadn’t expected or practiced since joining the Chiefs before the start of the season. The Kansas City head coach also pointed out a missed opportunity by the former Cincinnati Bengals standout.

“Yes. Welcome to the crew there. He (Perine) had another one where I was told those guys keep running because when Pat (Patrick Mahomes) starts moving, you gotta stay on the run,” Reid said.” He got caught when he stopped thinking the play was over. And that’s pretty amazing with that ball. So it’s a good lesson to learn. But then he came back and did it well.”

On Monday night, Perine was paired with Kareem Hunt and Carson Steele and finished the game with one reception for 24 yards. He gets consistent snaps on offense and is often seen as another reliable receiver out of the backfield.
