Chance of snow predicted at high altitudes this week

PARK CITY, Utah – As a cool wave of weather moves into northern Utah this week, meteorologists are predicting a chance of high-elevation snowfall Wednesday and beyond.

As the trough sinks into the Great Basin on Tuesday, expect wind and thunderstorms to increase in Utah. Temperatures will be noticeably cooler on Wednesday, with highs in Salt Lake in the low 70s and as low as the 50s and 60s in Park City.

OpenSnow’s Evan Thayer is predicting a chance of snow for the upper Uintas and the Wasatch high peaks. The National Weather Service report for Alta is predicting a chance of snow showers between 9 a.m. and noon Thursday, followed by rain and possible thunderstorms after noon Thursday, possibly into Thursday night with a low of 95 degrees at the base.

The first snow of the 2023-2024 winter season in Utah fell on September 4, 2023. A dusting of snow was visible at Snowbird and on Bald Mountain Pass at an elevation of 10,715 feet.
