Central Energy Earns Provincial Bronze – PembinaValleyOnline.com

Central Energy took home bronze medals this past weekend at the Softball Manitoba U13 AAA Provincial Championship at Quarry Park in Stonewall.

Central finished the round robin games with a 3-3 record. On Thursday, Energy defeated the Smitty’s Terminators 15-8 and lost to the host Interlake Phillies 7-1. Friday was also split with an 8-1 loss to the Eastman Wildcats and a narrow 9-8 win over the Westman Magic. The club went 1-1 again on Sunday with an 8-3 loss to the Winnipeg Lightning and an 8-7 win over the Manitoba Angels.

Central was in fourth place after a round robin game and in a Sunday game against the third-place Winnipeg Lightning. Central scored five runs in the first inning, helping them defeat the Lightning 9-1 and secure the bronze medal. Energy collected 11 hits in the game. Beaudry English drove in two runs, while Brielle Friesen, Collins Vrooman and Kylie Wiebe each had two hits.

That win earned Energy another chance against the Eastman Wildcats and a chance to play for gold. The Wildcats opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning on two doubles, and they kept adding runs to win 7-0 in the semifinals. Cassandra Lanthier started the game for Central. The right-handed pitcher surrendered five hits and three runs in two innings, struck out one and walked none. Bianca Lanthier went 1-for-1 at the plate to lead Central in hits.
