Celebrate National Dog Day at these patios in Minneapolis and St. Paul

Every day is a good day to give your pup some extra love, whether that’s a delicious treat or a trip to your favorite dog-friendly patio. But Monday is National Dog Day, so what are you waiting for?

More public places than ever are welcoming dogs, but Mary Tan of Whisker Media, a pet public relations agency in Minnesota, specifically looks for patios that have ample space between each table for her furry friend. Tan also likes to hang out on the side, against a wall, if one is available.

“I love that everything is pet-friendly, but you still have to be respectful of people with allergies or people who don’t like dogs,” Tan said.

Tan keeps a close eye on her pet, especially on warm days like Monday, when temperatures soar to nearly 90 degrees. A cooling mat for a pup to lie on is an essential tool for pet owners, even in Minnesota, she said.

“It’s just way too hot, especially if you have a big, furry dog,” Tan said. “If you’re taking your animal to a dog-friendly patio or something, be an advocate for them.”
