Calling all motion designers! DEMO Festival is going global

Since its first festival in 2019, DEMO Festival, a motion design event that takes over public screens with moving images, has quickly built a reputation for showcasing talent and ingenious use of public space. Now, ahead of its largest event to date on January 30, 2025, the curators are inviting the motion design community to submit their work for showcase.

In the first edition of DEMO (founded by leading motion designers in their own right, Studio Dumbar/DEPT®), screens normally saved for advertising in Amsterdam were taken over by the design community for 24 hours. In total, 400 works were displayed, by 253 creatives, hailing from 37 countries. An incredible creative feat in itself, in 2022 the festival expanded to take over the most screens across the Netherlands – expanding its content to over 800 works, by 400+ designers and a global reach of 54 countries.

Not content with this already gargantuan exhibition, DEMO is expanding to a “global cities edition” for 2025, taking in Antwerp, Barcelona, Brussels, Cardiff, Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Leeds, Madrid, Milan and Vancouver. The Dutch presence also remains strong, with takeovers planned for Eindhoven, Rotterdam, Tilburg, Utrecht and the festival’s original home, Amsterdam. The playfulness of motion design will be on display across public screens in these major cities, all the way to their underground systems – from Metro Line 5 in Barcelona to the Reeperbahn in Hamburg. Screens have been donated thanks to DEMO’s OOH partners, Global, adtrackmedia and blowUP media.
